No doubt the first things you think of when you think of Anna Maria Island are the sun, white-sand beaches, swimming, surfing and other fun-in-the-sun kinds of activities.

But at some point the sun goes down…so what’s left to do? Plenty!

Anna Maria Island is teeming with great night spots, where you’ll find lots of live music and flowing drinks that will take you straight through to the early morning if you’re so inclined.

A fun beach destination like Anna Maria Island draws a lot of the young crowd who want a fun nightlife to go along with the fun beach days.

But what about the folks who prefer their nightlife a bit on the quieter side? Not sit-on-the-deck-and-read-a-book quiet, but at least away from the loud live bands and raucous crowds.

There is some good news if you’re one of these folks. There are places on Anna Maria Island where you can spend your night hours, too. Here are among the best low key nighttime hangouts you can enjoy when you vacation on Anna Maria Island.

Anchor Inn

Location: 3007 Gulf Dr, Holmes Beach, FL 34217

Drinks pool tables and TVs–if this sounds like the kind of nightlife you’d enjoy, you’ll want to hit Anchor Inn.

The Anchor Inn is usually quite quiet, with no loud music over the speakers. Mondays is karaoke night, which is possibly the loudest the bar can get during the week. There’s also no dancing or live entertainment- just the crack of billiard balls and maybe some sports on the TV.

People come from afar for the casually quiet and friendly atmosphere. The free trolley stops right nearby, so if you’ve had too many of the Inn’s good-sized drinks, don’t drive–just hop on the trolley!

Hurricane Hanks

Location: 5346 Gulf Dr, Holmes Beach, FL 34217

If you like to relax with a drink and watch some sports, Hurricane Hanks is the place for you.

You can watch your favorite games on some large-screen TVs, enjoy some Island crab cakes or chicken tenders and have a drink or two. The kitchen remains open late on weekdays (til 10 PM) and even later on weekends (til 11 PM) and the bar is open even later.

The loudest it gets is when someone’s team is losing, of course…but if you’re looking for a casual atmosphere and good times, make Hurricane Hanks your Anna Maria nighttime stop.

Bortell’s Lounge

Location: 10002 Gulf Dr, Anna Maria, FL 34216

Here’s a place where you’ll usually find a small, friendly crowd enjoying some drinks, TV and conversation.

Described by many reviews on TripAdvisor as a “dive bar”, you’ll find a diverse crowd where you can make plenty of new friends, play some pool and just hang out.

Though the lounge is small, the conversations are loud and the energy is bombastic. Appearances can often be deceptive and such is the case with Bortell’s Lounge. Stop in and you just might experience a fun nighttime spot. Open til 1 AM!

A Quiet Night on Anna Maria Island

Of course, you also have the option to simply stay at your beach rental when the sun goes down.

You might find some activities for the night crowd in the area where you’re staying. Or, you can just gather your family and friends and enjoy some drinks and quiet talk poolside or on your balcony or patio.

Whatever you decide, remember not to overdo it: as Annie sang, the sun will come up tomorrow, and you’ll have to be ready for another fun-filled day on the beach!
