About

Coquina Beach, located on the southern side of the island in the city of Bradenton Beach, got its name because of the pink, purple and yellow coquina shells that are often found along the white sand beaches. This is a well-loved Anna Maria Island beach not only by tourists traveling from afar but by locals. too. This beach has so much to do for people of all ages and has beautiful beach sunsets and views.

The beach is clean, the water is warm, and there are tall trees around, so there is also plenty of shade if you need it and are staying at the beach all day long. This makes for the perfect stop to relax! Not to mention, the sunsets are the beach are gorgeous and have a huge amount of color across the sky. 

Amenities

The beach itself is open from sunrise to midnight each day. It is clean and well cared for. The beach has a variety of amenities you can take advantage of. Some of these include a restroom, showers, picnic tables, grills, pavilions, playgrounds, game tables, volleyball courts and a paved trail for biking, running, or walking. 

There is a lifeguard on-duty as well as a first aid station, and there is plenty of free parking nearby. The only time you may need to pay is during peak hours. 

Things to Do

There is so much to do within Coquina Beach, so you will never get bored. You can spend the day relaxing at the beach, playing in the waves, seeing the beautiful shells and walking through the sand. 

You and your family are also able to rent kayaks or paddle boards. The ocean conditions sometimes can be choppy, so it is a good idea to look into the weather before heading out. There is a gear shop located at 427 Pine Avenue called Beach Bums AMI, which allows you to rent gear including snorkeling supplies, beach chairs and umbrellas. 

There are a lot of food options nearby for when you are hungry, too. Coquina Beach Café is a local favorite located at 2650 Gulf Drive and is right on the beach. This local establishment serves up fresh seafood, classic American dishes, and ice-cold beer. Coquina Beach Café is open weekdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends. 

Parking & Transportation

Driving your vehicle to Coquina Beach is very straightforward. Coquina Beach is at the southern end of Anna Maria Island. Luckily, there’s quite a bit of free parking available nearby, but you might not even need it!

Anna Maria Island offers a free trolley that goes up and down the island all throughout the day. If you have an Anna Maria Island rental at the northern end of the island, you are even able to take the trolley right to Coquina Beach. You can hop on and off the trolley as you please, and since there’s a convenient stop right here at Coquina Beach, it’s easy to make your way here whenever you want to.
